Student Awards and Scholarships

The Faculty of Community Services (FCS) offers over 20 awards and scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students that recognize your leadership, research, activism and more. There is more than $80,000 in funding available!

The 25/26 FCS student award cycle runs from November 24, 2025 to February 14, 2026.

This award recognizes and provides financial support to undergraduate LatinX students who are committed to improving the lives of people in the community.

Created by Anju Virmani, this award supports 2SLGBTQ+ students who are giving back to the community through volunteering and/or working towards a career that will support the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

The Durst Family Award for Indigenous Students supports Indigenous students who are enrolled in a full-time or part-time undergraduate program of study in the Schools of Child and Youth Care, Disability Studies, Early Childhood Studies, Social Work, and Urban and Regional Planning.

The FCS Undergraduate Black Student Award supports Black students who are enrolled in a full-time or part-time undergraduate program. The award was created to support the academic journeys of Black students across FCS.

The FCS Full-time Undergraduate Award acknowledges students who have demonstrated leadership, collaboration, creativity, innovation, commitment and/or contribution to their discipline, school or community. It also recognizes students who have may have overcome a personal obstacle while remaining in school.

The FCS Indigenous Student Success Awards supports Indigenous undergraduate and graduate students who have shown engagement with and/or commitment to Indigenous communities.

The FCS International Student Emergency Fund is a one-time emergency fund to support international students experiencing an urgent and immediate financial need. Students may receive up to $500 based on an identified short-term need, such as assistance with grocery or rent/tuition shortfall. Funds are limited and will not cover ongoing financial need. Students must first apply for financial support through the International Student Services (ISS). Following ISS financial eligibility assessment, students eligible for FCS funds will be referred by ISS. 

The FCS Part-time Undergraduate Award acknowledges students who have demonstrated leadership, collaboration, creativity, innovation, commitment and/or contribution to their discipline, school or community. It also recognizes students who may have overcome a personal obstacle while remaining in school.

The FCSS Daniel Barkin and Jacob Circo Student-in-Action Award recognizes students who have made significant contributions to student life and engagement in our faculty, acknowledging student leadership, volunteerism and commitment to supporting the FCS undergraduate student body.

The Isabella and Oscar Zacharias Undergraduate Research Award promotes and recognizes outstanding research and high academic achievement for full-time and part-time undergraduate students.

This grant funds FCS students who are traveling nationally or internationally for placement. The grant is intended to support opportunities that will enhance the student’s capacity to support healthy, equitable and caring environments for all. Funding is available for placements in the current academic year (including Fall, Winter, or Spring/Summer semesters).

The RBC Community Services Award is available for students enrolled in an undergraduate full-time degree program at the Faculty of Community Services who are interested in pursuing a career in the non-profit sector.

The FCS Social Innovation Award supports full-time and part-time undergraduate students who have a strong interest in working creatively towards addressing a social issue. The award was established to support students that think boldly and act courageously.

The Toronto Eglinton Rotary Club / Dr. Robert McClure Award in Health Science Award supports Indigenous students pursuing a degree in a full-time, undergraduate Health Sciences program in the Faculty of Community Services (Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing, Midwifery Education Program, the School of Occupational and Public Health or the School of Nutrition). The award was created to honour the work of Dr. Robert McClure, an outstanding humanitarian, gifted surgeon, the first lay Moderator of the United Church of Canada and member of the Toronto Eglinton Rotary Club.

The Faculty of Community Services Undergraduate Research Grant encourages undergraduate students to engage in a research project focused on a question they have that has emerged from their academic experience, student engagement, transition from student to a professional role, or teaching and learning experiences.

The Usha George Students-in-Action Award has been established in recognition of Usha George, former Dean of the Faculty of Community Services, for her active commitment to student engagement, learning opportunities beyond the classroom and social innovation.

Full-time and part-time undergraduate students can apply for project funding for a student-led initiative that addresses a social issue in the local/global community. Examples may include launching a campaign, organizing an event, hosting a lecture, facilitating a workshop, or executing a project. Innovation and creativity are encouraged! Students may apply as a group, however, one student will submit the application and be responsible for managing their funding and any other requirements of this award.

The FCS Graduate Black Student Award supports Black students who are enrolled in a full-time or part-time graduate program. The award was created to support the academic journeys of Black students across FCS.

The FCS Indigenous Student Success Awards support Indigenous undergraduate and graduate students who have shown engagement with and/or commitment to Indigenous communities.

The FCS Student Dean's Essay Writing Award acknowledges graduate students for the winning essay within each of our graduate school programs. By nomination only — no application is required.

The FCS Dean’s Social Justice Graduate Award supports graduate students who demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice through their program of study and/or research.

The FCS SRC Innovation Graduate Award supports graduate students who challenges the status quo within their field of study with new solutions and new ways of thinking and practising.

This grant aims to provide funding to undergraduate and graduate students who have had a paper accepted and who have been invited to attend a peer-reviewed academic conference. This grant is available for the Fall and Winter term and until the funds run out.
