Emerging Graduate Researcher

Davis Vallesi is a PhD candidate in the joint program in Communication & Culture at York and Toronto Met Universities. His dissertation research explores how media coverage contributes to the democratic process during Canadian federal elections, adopting a historical analysis. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Digital Media, developing a background of expertise in both traditional and digital platforms of media, as well as the resulting convergence between them. 

As a member of the XJO team, he is contributing to the “Frames of AI & Robotics in Explanatory Journalism” project, led by Dr. Frauke Zeller. Davis’ research involves charting the history of explanatory journalism, understanding the process of news framing by journalists, assessing the changes brought by the internet and social media to the information landscape, and unpacking concerns of truth and credibility within our present era that is marked by a sharp rise of disinformation.
