Sarah Hoyos-Hoyos
Sarah Hoyos is a Data Scientist, passionate about tackling climate change and human migration challenges through data-driven solutions. With expertise in geospatial analytics and machine learning, she transforms complex environmental and social data into actionable insights. Her work combines Python, R, and GIS technologies to uncover patterns in social demographic and population data.
She has a Master's degree in Spatial Analysis from Toronto Metropolitan university and joined CERC Migration to support migration researchers in conducting quantitative analysis and applying geospatial methods to migration research. Sarah’s primary work involves data modeling for the Complex Migration Flows and Multiple Drivers in a Comparative Perspective (MEMO) project. Here, she investigates drivers of migration (including climate and socio-demographic factors), at different spatial scales, in partnership with academics at 15+ different universities and community organizations across West Africa, Latin America and South Asia. Sarah develops spatial analyses and advises on the Migration Foresight project as well as providing support at CERC Migration in different capacities such as mentoring students in the Bridging Divides - Migration Data Challenge 2025.
Sarah was a 2025 Visiting Fellow at Latin American Faculty for the Social Sciences (FLACSO-Ecuador) and having presented at international conferences and collaborated with different stakeholders, is always eager to connect with fellow data scientists, researchers, and anyone interested in using data to address global challenges.
