Non-degree study: Special students

Taking courses at the Faculty of Arts, but not a TMU student? Here’s what you need to know.

Special students include

  • People taking a course for personal interest
  • University graduates taking additional classes to upgrade skills
  • Visiting students from other universities earning transfer credits

How to register

Note: If you’ve already been admitted as a Special student within the last 6 academic terms you don’t need to reapply.

Once your application has been approved you can enrol in courses. Please note:

  • You may need to submit your Special Student Permission Form before enrolling
  • Special student enrolment is not guaranteed
  • Special students can register once regular program students have completed registration

Rules and regulations

  • If you’ve received a Required to Withdraw notice from TMU or any other university you can’t register as a Special student 
  • Special students are unable to register for core elective courses that are part of a degree program.
  • If there is a core elective course you’re interested in, search the Chang School of Continuing Education to see if they offer something similar
