TIFF TALK WITH CÉSAR AUGUSTO ACEVEDO

AWARD WINNING DIRECTOR AND SCREENWRITER

Born in Cali, Colombia, César Augusto Acevedo’s first feature film LAND AND SHADE (2015) won the Caméra d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He graduated from the Faculty of Social Communication at Valle University. His latest film, HORIZONTE (2024), follows a mother and her long-lost son journey through war-torn Colombia seeking redemption and discovering that only great sacrifices can heal their souls and mend their fractured past. Horizonte will have its world-premiere at TIFF 24 (external link, opens in new window)  (external link) .

TIFF TALK WITH BELÉN FUNES

AWARD WINNING DIRECTOR, SCREENWRITER, AND TIFF TALENT LAB ALUMNA

Belén Funes studied at Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya in Barcelona and completed her Masters in screenwriting at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. Her first feature film, A THIEF’S DAUGHTER (2019), won the Goya Award for best first film. She has also directed the short films Sara a la fuga (2015) and La inútil (2017). LOS TORTUGA (2024), her latest film, will have its world premiere at TIFF 24 (external link) 

Open to all TMU students, faculty and staff. Refreshments will be served.
