Zoom Year or Gap Year?

Not sure of your fall plans? Join Faculty of Arts professors and students for a webinar and discussion on how to strategically weigh the pros and cons of taking a year off from university during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The prospect of a virtual fall semester and a summer with limited employment opportunities has many students questioning the decision to continue their post-secondary education this year. The COVID-19 pandemic has created uncertainties, but is this the best year to take a “gap year”?

We will discuss the following questions:

  • Should I do full-time studies this fall or take a gap year?
  • Making deliberate decisions (don't just "go with your gut")
  • Assess advantages/disadvantages of school in remote delivery this year
  • Enumerate your other options (sitting at home can be depressing)
  • Employment prospects and economic factors
  • Travel and pandemic (the classic gap year options are more limited)
  • How to make the best of remote delivery if you choose to
  • How to make the best of gap year if you choose to
  • Financial Assistance - if I choose the Zoom year, can I afford it?
