Julia Cratchley
Julia Cratchley is a Toronto-based, Dora-nominated artist and the Artistic Director of her immersive company, TranscenDance Project, founded in 2015. The company has produced eight seasons and three full-scale productions—Eve of St. George, A Grimm Night, and Ophis—each met with critical acclaim. Most recently, Ophis received two Dora Award nominations, including Outstanding Production.
Originally from Richmond Hill, Ontario, Julia trained as both a contemporary and classical artist in Vancouver, British Columbia, in Arts Umbrella’s Graduate Program under the direction of Artemis Gordon and Lynn Sheppard. During her time there, she had the opportunity to work with internationally renowned choreographers including Emily Molnar, Roberto Campanella, Serge Bennethon, and Robert Glumbek, among others.
Julia was a member of Toronto’s Helix Dance Project, where she performed as both a dancer and assistant choreographer, and has also worked extensively as a freelance dancer. She has performed and choreographed for Bridge to Artists during its first three seasons, and collaborated with companies including Toes for Dance, Conteur Dance Company, and Rutherford Movement Exchange. Her career has taken her on tour across Canada, as well as to New York and the Dominican Republic.
Julia is also a certified Pilates instructor, a discipline that supports her approach to both training and teaching.
