If Bridgerton characters went to TMU

While watching the new season of Bridgerton (external link)  these past few weeks, I started to wonder what kind of program each character would be in if they went to Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). It didn’t take too many glances around campus to realize that much like the London high society in the show, the TMU “ton” has its very own unique students—many of whom have traveled across oceans to join our ranks.

Benedict Bridgerton

Benedict’s busy week is split between the gym and his Psychology classes. But it is for good reason. Benedict plays for the TMU Bold (external link)  soccer team as a defender, and has proudly brought home many wins for his team. He tells everyone his favourite gym is the Recreation and Athletic Centre (RAC), but that is only so he can gatekeep the quiet early mornings he gets to spend in the iconic Maple Leaf Gardens home, the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC). Benedict chose Psychology because much like sports, it requires one to think ahead and understand human reasoning.

Penelope Featherington

Penelope Featherington is a Social Work student who spends most of her time in Eric Palin Hall taking lethal notes that can crack open even the most complex case study. She is the best person to have on a group project, although sometimes she might favour gossip more than your academic inputs. A tea enthusiast, Penelope often heads to the Hub Café to get her caffeine fix. She also likes their multi-cuisine offerings, especially excited on days she gets a taste of home. She writes for the TMU International Students Blog, covering inspiring student journeys.

Colin Bridgerton

Colin is in his final year of the Image Arts: Photography Media Arts program. When he first arrived at TMU as an international student, he was originally a Chemistry major, but a visit to The Image Centre (external link)  changed everything. He found himself so dazzled by the iconic Black Star collection and the global stories behind each image that he knew he had found his true calling in visual storytelling. He transferred his credits and started working for Student Life TMU (external link)  through the Career Boost International program where he gets to capture the campus the way he sees it. The next time you’re walking by Balzac’s café, catch Colin sitting outside, staring at the pigeons on Gould Street and waiting patiently for the perfect flutter of wings he can capture through his Equipment Distribution Centre issued camera.

Kate Sharma

Kate’s mind is as sharp as the cutting designs she makes for her Fashion classes. As an international student at The Creative School, she loves engaging with her peers to learn about the global career prospects she should recommend to her sister, Edwina. Kate has decided to minor in Marketing so that she can one day start her own business to compete with fast fashion brands. To stay balanced and connected with her community, Kate is a regular at International Student Support (ISS) events. She never misses the Coffee and Conversations sessions, where she swaps sustainable styling tips with students from around the world.

Anthony Bridgerton

Anthony likes to think of himself as the king of the Ted Rogers School of Management. He is an executive member in the Ted Rogers Student Society (external link)  and of the esteemed Top 200 program. Having done co-ops in the top banks of Canada, Anthony works part-time at the Business Career Hub. He uses his experience to help other international students navigate the Canadian job market, providing tips on everything from resume building to networking in a new country. In his free time, you can find him singing praises of his program, Business Technology Management, and how it is unique within Ontario.

Francesca Bridgerton

Francesca was initially scared to move to Toronto from across the world because she wasn’t sure if she would succeed in a busy, metropolitan environment. But six months in and Francesca has felt welcomed through open arms in the Philosophy program at TMU. She likes that her program requires her to think challenging thoughts with her intelligent peers, who have varying backgrounds and experiences. She has also found her calling in music, planning to minor in Music and Culture. You can sometimes find her in the empty Kerr Hall classroom which houses a piano, playing soft notes that echo through the hallways.

Daphne Basset

When Daphne discovered that she could explore her love for math in the Faculty of Science with the Financial Mathematics program, there was no stopping her. Quite the diamond in her batch, Daphne has made the Dean’s List every year, a feat she attributes to the academic workshops and peer-facilitated study groups at Student Life & Learning Support (SLLS). But financial trends aren’t the only figures Daphne masters; she also spends time at The Fashion Zone, TMU’s interdisciplinary incubator, connecting with industry advisors to learn about the Canadian business landscape.
