As Asian Heritage Month comes to an end, we invite you to a free online film exhibition, Films by Jesse Nishihata, from June 14 to 24, 2021.

Jesse Hideo Nishihata was a pioneer Japanese Canadian filmmaker. He worked on documentaries for the CBC, the NFB, and taught film and media studies at Ryerson University's Image Arts Department, during which period he established himself as an independent producer and director.

This online film exhibition highlights Jesse Nishihata's work as an independent documentary filmmaker. Films will be available for viewing online  (external link) June 14-24, 2021. The Nishihata family will join the curator for a conversation on June 20, 2021 at 7pm EDT (Zoom info (external link) ).

This exhibition is curated by Yixun Zhang, as a part of their thesis project for the MA program Film + Photography Preservation and Collections Management (opens in new window) . The film program is presented by the School of Image Arts (opens in new window) , and the Faculty of Communication & Design (opens in new window) , Ryerson University. Films are provided by the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre (CFMDC) (external link)  and the Jesse Nishihata estate.
