Tess Sorochan-Ruland
Tess Sorochan-Ruland (she/her) is an Art Director, active member of the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC), and a contract lecturer at TMU's School of Image Arts. Her career includes work with top studios such as Paramount, Netflix, BBC, CBC, Amazon Prime, and Global TV. Recently, she worked as a 1st Assistant Art Director on Global TV’s Robyn Hood series and the Amazon Prime series Mr. Beast Games. Other notable shows include Star Trek: Discovery, where the crew utilized "The Volume," a visual effects technology and LED video wall designed by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), as well as Ginny & Georgia, TallBoyz, and Most Dangerous Game. Tess’ non-union short form Production Design work includes spots for Porter Airlines, Saje, and a Heritage Minute episode on Anne of Green Gables author Lucy Maud Montgomery. She worked on music videos for artists like Shawn Hook, Kiesza, Bakermat, and Grimes’ Kill v. Maim, which won a Juno Award for Video of the Year. Tess Production designed Alicia K. Harris’ short film Pick, which won the 2020 Canadian Screen Award for Best Short Film.
