Message from the Interim Chair
"At GCM, we are committed to educating the next generation of creative and operational leaders who value sustainability, accessibility, collaboration, and innovation."
Welcome to the School of Graphic Communications Management (GCM) at Toronto Metropolitan University. Here, creativity, technology, and business intersect to transform how ideas are designed, produced, distributed, and experienced in our world. GCM stands apart as a vibrant academic community dedicated to fostering innovation at every stage of the graphic communications process.
GCM’s strength lies in its interdisciplinary approach. Our programs are intentionally crafted to unite creative practice, technological systems, and operational strategy. Students gain insight into both the process and purpose behind production, discovering how innovation, sustainability, accessibility, and efficiency are embedded throughout the entire lifecycle. This holistic perspective equips graduates to lead in a rapidly evolving industry spanning print, packaging, digital media, and emerging technologies.
Our faculty are central to this vision. With expertise spanning sustainable materials and processes, colour management, workflow and automation, accessibility and inclusive practices, packaging systems, and distribution, our educators bring both depth and diversity to the classroom. They are active researchers whose work advances the field, informs industry practice, and creates opportunities for students to participate in applied, forward-looking research.
Industry partnership is not an add-on at GCM; it is embedded in how we teach, research, and engage. Through collaboration with industry leaders, professional organizations, and alumni, our students gain exposure to real challenges, emerging technologies, and professional networks that shape their learning and career pathways. These partnerships ensure our programs remain relevant, responsive, and grounded in practice.
At GCM, we are committed to educating the next generation of creative and operational leaders who value sustainability, accessibility, collaboration, and innovation. I invite you to join our community and be part of shaping the future of graphic communications.
Warm regards,
Dr. Reem El Asaleh
