Congratulations Class of 2019
“I. LOVE. FASHION,” said Dr. Ben Barry, Chair of Fashion in his opening speech at Mass Exodus 2019 last week. For over 65 years, the School of Fashion at Toronto Metropolitan University has led the fashion industry and we will continue to lead the fashion industry – because we love fashion.
The theme for Mass Exodus 2019 was An Inevitable Shift. At a time where the fashion industry is undergoing an inevitable shift, the theme could not have come at a more apt time for both the history of the fashion industry and of the school. The theme was created by Fashion third year Fashion Promotions students. The executive team Brittany Paty, Sara Callaway, Sarmina Manku, Yaz Blackley, Blair Savage, and the faculty Daniel Drak and Robert Ott did an impeccable job of executing such a large-scale year-end show.
This year, we invited an icon in the creative and cultural industries to serve as curator, Vivek Shraya. She is an artist whose body of work crosses the boundaries of music, literature, visual art and film. Her speech that night resonated and inspired reflection closing off with a verse from her song, Girl It’s Your Time.
The hard work and commitment of past and current faculty and staff is the reason the School of Fashion is able to continue to lead in the fashion industry. The incredible work of our fourth year students both on Mass Exodus 2019: Installation (April 4th) and Runway (April 6th) is a reflection of the support and foundation at the School of Fashion in the Faculty of Communication & Design.
Congratulations to both Fashion Communication and Fashion Design students for showcasing their work on either Installation or Runway. We celebrate you, Class of 2019, as the newest group of leaders in the fashion and creative industries.
