Fashion Design Alumna wins $10,000
Carbone’s motivation to create socially aware and responsible designs comes from “empath with ambition. From an early age I had to confront racism and homophobia...Creating work about my experiences and feelings has the power to make others feel heard and understood, and I wish I had felt understood when I was struggling to come to terms with my Asian-ness and Queerness.” STITCHED gave Carbone a nostalgic excitement about fashion, like when she considered [fashion] as her careers in eighth grade.
Carbone shared that the production team and fellow designers on STITCHED were so friendly, Despite the intensity of the competition. This platform allowed her to create a connection with designers, Hawwaa who she visited in New York. Carbone further added, “the experience was affirming that I was meant to be in fashion, that my ideas resonated with real people.”
Carbone is currently a full-time designer for adaptive clothing brand, Monarch.
We’d also like to congratulate Fashion Alumni Adrian Arnieri, Ryan Joelson, Som Kong, Maegan McWade, Van Yanez and Michael Zoffranieri in competing on STITCHED.
