From crafting your next grant application to focusing on your project or field work, the spring and summer months are an ideal time to deeply engage in Scholarly, Research and Creative (SRC) activities.

Here are some tips and resources from the OVPRI to help ensure a successful and productive season for your SRC activities.

Familiarize yourself with the university’s 2025-2030 Strategic Research Plan.

The plan, which includes seven strategic themes, is a dynamic roadmap that drives the scaling and acceleration of SRC endeavours and aligns them with institutional goals and societal needs.

Support the next generation of highly qualified personnel.

Summer is a great time for students to participate in research opportunities to build their skills and to develop the next generation of highly qualified personnel. If you’re planning ahead for next year, consider internal programs such as the Undergraduate Research Opportunities program or the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council’s Undergraduate Student Research Awards, or learn about a number of other student research supports

Plan for upcoming grant applications.

It’s never too soon to start writing your external grant application. Start building your project or your team in the spring and, in the summer, consider getting feedback from the OVPRI’s research proposal facilitators or tapping colleagues for their input on your grant application.

Prepare to launch your project.

Already have a funded project? Take this time to develop your implementation plan and take action to ensure a successful SRC project.
