Equity Advocate Selection and Training

February 16, 2023

Dear colleagues,

We hope that this email finds you well. We are reaching out as our records indicate that your committee has either not yet selected/elected an equity advocate or if one has been selected/elected, the individual has not completed the training that has been offered for equity advocates.

Equity, diversity and inclusion are among our core values and strategic priorities as found in our academic plan and in our commitments to Truth and Reconciliation and to the recommendations from the Anti-Black Racism Campus Climate Review Report. Furthermore, our TFA Collective Agreement now also requires that an equity advocate be selected/elected in each hiring, tenure and promotion committee, who shall participate in the relevant training offered and work in collaboration with the chair of the committee to advance EDI in their work as a committee and to report on EDI considerations in the recommendation letters for hiring, tenure and promotion.

IMPORTANT!

In order to satisfy the obligations under the Collective Agreement, all Equity Advocates who did not attend one of the training sessions offered on October 26, 2021, November 16, 2021 or October 4, 2022, are required to view the recording of the EDIA Awareness training from October 4, 2022. This recording is currently available via the D2L course EDIA Learning and Development. We kindly ask you to go to Assessments > Assignments to view the required recording by March 7, 2023.

It is important that this training be completed as soon as possible as committees will need to confirm in their recommendation letter that this obligation has been fulfilled.

Committees may also visit our page on inclusive excellence at TMU for additional resources.

The last part of our four-part series on equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in the recruitment, retention and promotion process will be offered on March 7, 2023. We invite equity advocates and all interested colleagues to join us then.
