Class Start/End Times Reminder & Faculty/Course Surveys Winter 2023
To: RFA Faculty Members and CUPE Unit 1 & 2 Contract Lecturers
CC: Deans, Deans' Office Admin, Chairs/Directors, Senior HR Partners
Dear faculty and contract lecturers,
- Class Start/End Times
A gentle reminder that at TMU, undergraduate and graduate classes begin at 10 minutes past the hour, and end on the hour. The 10-minute interval provides travel time for students and faculty/contract lecturers coming from various locations across campus and also provides time for the outgoing faculty member/contract lecturer time to depart and the incoming one time to set up. Kindly leave the classroom on the hour so that your colleague teaching after you has time to set up.
Evening classes at The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education begin at the scheduled start time – 6:00 pm, 6:30 pm, etc.
- Winter 2023 Faculty/Course Surveys
This is to confirm that for the Winter 2023 term the TFA, CUPE Local 3904 and the University have agreed that the following process related to the Faculty/Course Survey (FCS) will be implemented.
- For all tenure-stream (probationary and tenured) and Limited Term Faculty, and Contract Lecturers the FCS will continue to be administered online.
- For the Winter 2023 term, on a without prejudice and precedent basis, the FCS will continue to include only the following five course operations questions that speak to the student educational experience:
- I received feedback on my work prior to the drop date.
- The course handouts/postings contain all the information I need about the organization of this course.
- Students are treated fairly.
- The class meets as scheduled and on time.
- The instructor is available for consultation as specified on the course handouts/postings.
- Information collected through the FCS for Winter 2023 will be available to individual faculty members and contract lecturers through the FCS portal for formative purposes and shall not be included in faculty annual reports nor contract lecturers’ currency reports.
- Faculty members may choose to include Winter 2022, Fall 2022, and Winter 2023 FCS results in their teaching dossier for the purpose of tenure and promotion but in no case shall be required to submit FCS results arising out of courses taught during this period. No negative inference will be drawn as a result of their absence.
- Contract lecturers may choose to include Winter 2022, Fall 2022, and Winter 2023 FCS results in their application packages but are not required to include their FCS results for this period. No negative inference will be drawn as a result of their absence
Please note important information about the Faculty/Course Survey (FCS) in the Winter 2023 term:
- Course validation will take place from February 22, 2023 to March 15, 2023. During this period of time, the Chair / Director / Assistant of your department / school / program will send you an email (via the link on my.torontomu.ca) asking you to confirm the information about your course(s) to be evaluated this semester. Please verify all information carefully and notify your Chair / Director about any error, such as the wrong number of students, missing a course section, etc. Your surveys will be prepared according to the list validated by you.
- Paper-based in-class FCS process will continue to be suspended for all courses.
- The online surveys will be available for students to complete via the links on my.torontomu.ca or TMU Mobile for the following dates:
- Undergraduate and graduate courses: from March 31, 2023, 6:00 p.m. to April 10, 2023, 6:00 a.m.
- The Chang School courses: from March 31, 2023, 6:00 p.m. to April 14, 2023, 11:59 p.m.
Please note that although some Faculty/Course surveys will be available before the final course drop date, only responses from students who remain in the course will be included in the Faculty/Course Survey results. As is normal practice, no student identity will be linked to any individual responses.
Please visit the Faculty/Course Survey webpage for more information.
