Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) Series

September 23, 2022

To: RFA members
CC: Deans' Offices, Senior HR Partners

Dear Colleagues,

EDIA Series for Faculty

We are pleased to share with you that the VPFA Advisory Group consisting of Drs. Art Blake, Imogen Coe and Seth Dworkin will be delivering a four-part series on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility in the Faculty Recruitment, Retention and Promotion process. These sessions will be offered as hybrid (please note that we do have a cap on in-person registration based on the space capacity). The sessions will also be recorded for future access. Further information including how to register, can be found on our EDIA Series for Faculty website.

Equity Advocate Training

As outlined in the RFA Collective Agreement, each hiring and evaluation committee is responsible for selecting/electing an equity advocate from within the committee. The equity advocate shall attend training on equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility, offered by the University’s administration. To fulfill this requirement, equity advocates serving on hiring committees may access the recording and presentation on inclusive hiring practices from the 2021-22 year, which can be accessed following the instructions provided below, and/or choose to attend the above noted EDIA series that will be offered this year.

Equity advocates serving on evaluation committees (e.g. DEC/FTC, etc.) are expected to attend the first session of the four-part series noted above and are also strongly encouraged to attend/view the recordings of the subsequent three sessions that will be offered. The development of knowledge and skills in EDIA is a longer term journey and we encourage all faculty and all committee members (not just the equity advocates) to join these interactive sessions.

Instructions for accessing the 2021-22 material on inclusive hiring practices:

  • Log into the my.ryerson.ca portal
  • Go to "Online Courses & Organizations" (upper horizontal menu)
  • Select the "EDIA Learning and Development" module
  • Click on "Content"
