Deadline for pre-tenure members to extend probationary period in light of COVID-19 pandemic

Date
March 31, 2022
Time
All Day

If a pre-tenure member scheduled to be reviewed for tenure commencing May 2022 wishes to extend their probationary period by one year, they must make this election by March 31, 2022. The election must be submitted through the  (google form) Extension of Probationary Period Form (external link) .

This is an optional election that does not require to provide a rationale as to why they are electing to extend their probationary period.

Should they choose to defer their tenure review, there will be no negative inference by the evaluation committees, or the Vice-Provost, Faculty Affairs. Further, the criteria to be applied for tenure review will be unchanged as a result of this extension, and what is expected of the candidate will be as if the extension had not occurred.

Agreement to provide this extension opportunity to pre-tenure faculty members has been reached without prejudice by the University and the RFA. It is limited to those faculty members who held a pre-tenure appointment on or before April 1, 2021.
