Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU)’s New Media degree program unlocks your imagination and invites you to explore the intersection of art and technology. You'll fuse creativity with emerging and existing media as you develop a critical understanding of interactive and experiential art.

  Experiential learning opportunities: Internship available

Learn coding, electronics, immersive installations, video games, wearable computing, kinetic art, interactive design, video and sound production and more. Collaborate with esteemed partners such as the Ontario Science Centre and participate in year-round hackathons, maker festivals, industry salons and art exhibitions. You’ll also have the option to complete an internship, gaining valuable real-world experience.

This dynamic, highly flexible program lets you customize your experience and join a supportive community of creative makers — empowering you to shape the future of new media, your way.

New Media and Computer Science students co-create 11-foot arcade community table

New Media student Angelina Almanza is the fabrication lead of the community arcade table, or CAT6, which provides a physical space where students can gather and play video games developed by their peers, fostering collaboration, creativity and, most importantly, community engagement.

Requirements

This is a Grades-Only program. Admission decisions for Grades-Only programs are based on academic performance.

Academic requirements for full-time, 4-year program

To be considered for admission, Ontario high school students must meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
  • Completion of 6 Grade 12 U or M courses with a minimum overall average of 70%
  • Completion of the following required Grade 12 U course with a minimum grade of 70%: 
  • English/anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred) 

An overall average of 70% is required for consideration. Due to competition, the average needed for admission can fluctuate each year (it depends on the number of applications received and the number of spaces available). The grade range at the top of this page represents the average required in previous years.

Academic admission requirements for all other applicants are available on the admission requirements page. If you haven’t been educated in Ontario, you may be considered with the equivalent of the Ontario requirements. TMU reserves the right to determine equivalency at its sole discretion.
