Imagine creating innovative prosthetics, designing self-driving cars or building the next Mars rover. In Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU)’s Mechanical Engineering degree program, you’ll learn how to use engineering science and modern technology to address local and global challenges.
In your first year, you’ll start with engineering fundamentals, like calculus and physics. As you progress, you’ll develop a specialized skill set studying manufacturing and fabrication, thermal and fluid processes, mechanics and machine design. In fourth year, you’ll work with teammates on a capstone design project to address a real-world challenge and present your solution to industry experts.

With an optional paid co-op and lab-integrated learning, you’ll have many opportunities to gain practical experience in working with renewable energy, advanced materials, robotics and manufacturing processes.

1st Semester
Common to Aerospace, Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, and Mechatronics Engineering programs.
LIBERAL STUDIES:
One course from Table A - Lower Level Liberal Studies.

2nd Semester
Common to Industrial, Mechanical, and Mechatronics Engineering programs.

A Mechanical Engineering student was selected to be a Brooke Owens Fellow and will get practical experience designing mechanisms for testing at California-based Zipline Robotics.

Academic requirements for full-time, 4-year program
To be considered for admission, Ontario high school students must meet the following requirements:
- Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
- Completion of 6 Grade 12 U or M courses with a minimum overall average of 70%
- Completion of the following required Grade 12 U courses (minimum grade of 70% in each):
- English/anglais (ENG4U/EAE4U preferred)
- Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
- Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U)
- Physics (SPH4U)
- Chemistry (SCH4U)
An overall average of 70% is required for consideration. Due to competition, the average needed for admission can fluctuate each year (it depends on the number of applications received and the number of spaces available). The grade range at the top of this page represents the average required in previous years.
Academic admission requirements for all other applicants are available on the admission requirements page. If you haven’t been educated in Ontario, you may be considered with the equivalent of the Ontario requirements. TMU reserves the right to determine equivalency at its sole discretion.
