Graphic Communications Management students win 10th Helmut Kipphan Cup at TAGA Conference
Graphic Communications Management (GCM) students at Toronto Metropolitan University have won the Helmut Kipphan Cup for the 10th time at the 2026 TAGA NextGen Conference. The win makes student group TMUTAGA back-to-back champions following their ninth Cup in 2025.
The Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA) brings together students, academics, and industry members in graphic communications. TMU’s student chapter, TMUTAGA (external link) , competes annually in the Helmut Kipphan Student Chapter Competition (external link) , with entries judged across technical writing, design, and production categories.
Along with winning the Cup, TMUTAGA received Best Technical Paper Publication and tied for Best Package Production. GCM student Umme Abiha also received the Harvey Levenson Undergraduate Student Paper Award for her research on accessibility in packaging design.

“Our team has worked incredibly hard to produce a technical journal and package that reaches not only the standards of the NextGen conference, but also that of our skills as GCM students,” said TMUTAGA President Aliyah Jaffer.
“We’re honoured to add to our program’s legacy,” said Vice President Eimmie Chan. “Winning is a defining moment for us and a reflection of the incredible community GCM has built.”
TMUTAGA first won the Cup in 2008. After back-to-back wins in 2025 and 2026, the team will head into next year’s competition hoping to bring home number 11.
