Recruitment momentum: Engineering Admissions team kicks off another record-breaking year

With record applications, expanded outreach, and strong engagement across Ontario, the Engineering Student Admissions and Recruitment team is building on a year of remarkable momentum.

This fall, more than 1,400 new Engineering students joined FEAS. Even as they arrived, the Engineering Student Admissions and Recruitment team was already preparing for the next chapter: the Fall 2026 intake.

“In our world, the moment one admissions and recruitment cycle ends, a new one begins,” says Jeff Capel, Acting Director of Engineering Student Admissions and Recruitment. “Our goal is to inform and inspire the next generation of engineering students by showing them the hands-on learning, research, and community experiences that make our faculty such a dynamic place to study.”

Strong presence at key fall events

The fall season began with an impressive showing at the Ontario Universities’ Fair, which drew over 85,000 students and supporters across two days. FEAS engineering was well represented, with more than 50 current students and staff highlighting the faculty’s nine undergraduate engineering programs.

Applications on the rise

Last year, the Faculty received over 11,000 applications, which represents a 6% increase from the previous year. This growth is a key factor of the Dean’s Academic Plan to increase admission averages year over year, ensuring that TMU continues to attract top-performing students and remains one of Ontario’s most sought-after engineering destinations. As a result, this team continues to enhance its outreach and relationship-building efforts through a more intentional, year-round strategy that focuses on connection, visibility and support. Key elements of this strategy include:

  • Expanded school outreach: Visiting nearly 200 top high schools across the GTA to connect directly with future students and their supporters.
  • Enhanced guidance counsellor Relationships: Creating more touchpoints throughout the year to share updates, answer questions, and strengthen partnerships.
  • New and updated resources: Providing counsellors with a new viewbook, posters, and quick-facts admissions brochures to support their student advising efforts.
  • Ongoing communication: Maintaining consistent reminders and outreach across the admissions cycle to keep TMU Engineering top of mind for students and counsellors alike.
  • On-campus engagement: Hosting an annual Counsellor Day (April 2026, alongside Engineering and Architecture Day) where counsellors meet current students and explore capstone projects firsthand.

Meet the team

Together, this team continues to expand access, strengthen engagement, and elevate TMU’s reputation among future engineers across Ontario and beyond.

“Our Admissions and Recruitment team continues to demonstrate what makes FEAS truly exceptional; a faculty driven by passion, connection, and innovation,” says Dimitri Androutsos, Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs & Student Affairs. “Their tireless outreach and commitment to engaging future engineers not only elevate our programs but also ensure that TMU remains a destination for the brightest and most motivated students. Their work directly reflects our shared mission to educate the next generation of changemakers who will shape the future of engineering and society.”

The Engineering Admissions and Recruitment team is available year round to assist future domestic and international engineering students. Prospective students and parents can book 1:1 advising appointments, get additional FEAS admissions handbooks, and review frequently asked questions at our one-stop-shop admissions portal, torontomu.ca/askeng. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to share our updated FEAS virtual tour widely amongst their networks. Using panoramic photography, the tour is a virtual showcase of our labs, facilities and some of the cutting-edge technology that makes FEAS so special.

Looking ahead

As the team prepares for two marquee events, faculty and staff are invited to get involved. Attend, spread the word, and make the most of every chance to connect with and inspire future TMU Engineers.

Acting Director, Engineering Student Admissions and Recruitment

The fall recruitment season is my favorite time of year. After 20 years on the road and 14 years working in Engineering, it is always an awesome feeling to connect with these future Engineers and their supporters to help navigate their pathway to their dream careers. There is always so much enthusiasm and energy when we get to connect with them at their high schools or at events like the OUF and our on-campus Open Houses.
