Pitch Black (Grade 9) and Powering Up (Grade 11)

Close up of a person working with LEDs on a circuitboard

Pitch Black and Powering Up are free engineering outreach workshops designed for Grade 9 Science and Grade 11 Physics classes and are facilitated by our current engineering students and recent graduates. It is an electric circuits activity, which relates to the curriculum but also acts to promote engineering to your students. The activity starts with a presentation from our facilitators who will briefly talk about engineering and the different types of engineers. Students will then be asked to create an electric circuit on a breadboard from a schematic diagram using materials brought in by our facilitators.

Note: The concepts covered in these workshops correlate with the physics component of either the Ontario Grade 9 or Grade 11 curriculum. Please contact us at feasoutreach@torontomu.ca for further details.

We visit classes from September to June, during regular class hours. The program lasts an entire period.

As long as your school is located within the GTA, we come to your school. If you fall outside of our boundaries, please visit the WEMADEIT (external link, opens in new window)  website for a free lesson download.

This event is free. Not only will we provide all of the supplies, but we will also leave teachers with activity kits for use in future classes.
