Workshop Description

This workshop will introduce participants to the fundamentals of 3D design software CLO 3D and its applications in the fashion and apparel industry. Participants will learn the basic CLO workflow through guided projects and live demonstrations and explore integrating the software into their existing design processes. Key features of the workshop include navigating a 3D environment, learning CLO’s construction and pattern-drafting features, applying trims, digital materials and presentation tools. Through the workshop, participants will familiarize themselves with the key features and functions of CLO 3D, learn to import, edit and simulate patterns and garments, minimize their sampling time and cost, and engage with a growing community of 3D designers.

*Note for TMU Fashion Design Students: This workshop is focused on professional development. It is recommended that you take FFD 400 (3D Digital Fashion), as it teaches CLO 3D alongside other digital technologies in the context of the Fashion Design curriculum.

Workshop Objectives

As the fashion and apparel industry turns towards digital processes, 3D design skills are an increasingly valuable asset for fashion designers, pattern-makers, and merchandisers. By engaging with the CLO workflow, the workshop prepares participants to utilize the software in industry and augment their existing creative practices. Learning to create, edit, and render 3D designs with high accuracy and detail saves precious time and resources. Learning the fundamentals of CLO 3D within an industry context allows design professionals to adopt industry-standard 3D tools purposefully and holistically.

Workshop Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, successful participants will:

  • Learn to navigate CLO’s 3D environment
  • Adopt the CLO workflow and learn best practices
  • Create, edit and simulate 2D patterns
  • Arrange and sew 3D garments
  • Apply digital fabrics and trims
  • Modify avatar size and dimensions
  • Explore integrating CLO and CLO-SET into their existing workflows
  • Familiarize themselves with CLO-SET and CLO-SET Connect
