In Fall 2026, The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University will introduce a course focused on global icon Diljit Dosanjh. As the first university-level course in Canada to spotlight a Punjabi artist, it will examine his influence across music, film, and the creative economy. Students will explore how regional cultural expression can shape international trends and strengthen diasporic communities.

Announced at the Billboard Canada Summit at NXNE (external link, opens in new window) , the course draws on Dosanjh’s lifetime achievements to investigate broader themes of identity, representation, and innovation. “By foregrounding the career of Diljit Dosanjh, this course critically interrogates the mechanisms through which localized cultural production attains transnational resonance and economic value,” says Professional Music Program Director and Creative Industries Professor Charlie Wall-Andrews. “In offering this curriculum, The Creative School affirms its position at the vanguard of forward-thinking education.” The new offering was made possible through the contributions of Charlie Wall-Andrews, James Nadler, Sadia Kamran, and Marie Crosta.
