Join us at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) for a research-driven and community-centred exploration of Black youth excellence, creativity, and resistance through popular culture. Through art, digital storytelling, game design, and creative expression, Black youth share how they navigate digital worlds, build community, and imagine liberatory futures. Alongside artists, educators, and researchers, we will explore how popular culture shapes identity, education, and resistance.

  • Black Youth Marketplace (ages: 14 - 25) - A vibrant marketplace celebrating Black youth as creative entrepreneurs and cultural producers;
  • Black Futures Art Exhibition (ages: 14 -21) - A youth-led art exhibition exploring themes of liberation, resistance, and Afrofuturism;
  • Black Youth Symposium (High School Students) - A full-day conference bringing together Black high school students for hands-on workshops, keynote talks, and creative dialogue on Black culture, popular culture, and liberatory futures.

The Symposium and other parts of the conference will feature amazing Creative School faculty, researchers and students such as Ashley Jane Lewis, Nia Alexander Campbell, Miki Perry and Mariam Barrow, among many others.
