MBA Dare to Lead Summit
OUR PROGRAMS
"Dare to Lead is likely the most valuable workshop I have had the opportunity to participate in during my time in the Ryerson MBA. Being able to learn directly from industry leaders, while discussing particularly challenging moments in their professional lives, is a fascinating experience. This workshop should be mandatory — the lessons learned really and truly reinforce the managerial and leadership theories taught in the classroom."

MBA Dare to Lead Summit
Chris MacDonald, Director of the Leadership Centre, lecturing to MBA students
The Ted Rogers Leadership Centre believes that most students who make a conscious decision to become a leader and who tenaciously develop the skills and attitudes to do so will ultimately evolve into successful leaders.
The Centre conceives of leadership not as a role but as a process in which the leader positively influences others to achieve common goals. Theory and concepts of leadership are important, as are real life business leadership examples based on the experiences of business leaders in different complex businesses environments.
The Dare to Lead Summit, held each term on a Saturday at TRSM, brings together both theory and real business experiences through the involvement of business leaders from different sectors that present actual scenarios they have experienced. The students, divided into small groups, are asked to determine how they would pursue a resolution and the solution/ choices they would make if faced with this scenario. After the student groups have made their approach known, the leader tells the group how they dealt with the scenario and the approach and conclusions they reached.
This is followed by a discussion of the differences and similarities in the approaches of the leaders and students. As there is rarely a single perfect solution to any given leadership challenge the reasons for these differences will become an important part of the ensuing discussion and learning.
The goal for the Dare to Lead Summit is for students to discover the leader within themselves and gain insight into some of the key concepts of leadership through the experiences of leaders who describe actual scenarios they have encountered that provide insight into such key leadership variables as:
• Self awareness.
• Self-management
• Transparency and honesty
• Motivation and inspiration
• Influence/legitimacy
• Values/ethics
• Risk taking
