Help Plant TMU’s Native Pollinator Garden

On Wednesday, July 9, students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to join the Sustainability Office, Custodial and Groundskeeping Services and the English Language Institute as we launch the next phase of TMU’s new Native Pollinator Garden.

Located on Nelson Mandela Walk, we’re transforming a former lawn space into a vibrant, pollinator-supporting habitat. Participants will get their hands dirty and help plant species native to the Greater Toronto Area like New England aster, butterfly milkweed, stiff goldenrod and wild bergamot.

Why native plants matter–for pollinators and for us

Native pollinator species are vital to healthy ecosystems, but many are under threat. By participating, you’ll be helping us support critically at-risk native pollinators and increase the biodiversity of our urban campus.

TMU’s new Native Pollinator Garden will deepen the university community’s relationship with the land we all learn, work and grow on, while also providing opportunities for collaboration with Indigenous partners, supporting knowledge-sharing and cultural stewardship.

The Native Pollinator Garden also advances TMU’s Platinum STARS by 20235 Sustainability Action Plan goal and contributes to three United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals: Sustainable Cities and Communities (11), Climate Action (13) and Life on Land (15).

What to bring

We’ll have gardening gloves and tools at the event, but supplies are limited! Don’t miss out on the fun—if you have a trowel or other gardening tools, bringing your own is encouraged.
