Dr. Stephen Sheps
Dr. Stephen Sheps is an Assistant Professor and the Undergraduate Program Director of the RTA Sport Media Program. Trained as a Sociologist, Dr. Sheps completed his BA at the University of Alberta in 2006, MA at the University of Windsor in 2009 and his PhD at Queen’s University in 2014. Dr Sheps began teaching at TMU in the Sociology program in 2017 and joined the RTA Sport Media Program in 2022.
Dr. Sheps research profile is varied, with a dual focus in critical sport research and education & curriculum development. His current research explores the intersection of sport-based philanthropy events, corporate social responsibility and public health policy in Canada in addition to a collaborative project with colleagues in the UK that explores the need for a new kind of global sport governing body.
A selection of courses Dr. Sheps teaches includes RTA 108 (Sport Media Message Design), RTA 105 (Sport Media Theory and Practice) and RTA 844 (Sport in Film). He is a diehard fan of the Edmonton Oilers, Everton FC, and the Miami Dolphins for reasons he cannot entirely explain.
