From classroom to industry: Performance at The Creative School collaborates with Tarragon Theatre

October 16, 2025

Performance at The Creative School brings together emerging and established artists from the live entertainment industry to work with our students in the Acting, Dance, and Design and Production programs. These collaborations are essential to our curriculum and focus on bringing industry relevance and connections to our student body.

Since 2022, Performance has partnered with Tarragon Theatre (external link)  to bring working playwrights and directors together with our students and workshop the development of new plays.

Actors sit around a table holding scripts, they are all looking at one man who is standing to the side of the tables speaking to the audience.

Tarragon Theatre is Canada’s home for groundbreaking contemporary plays. Our mission is to create, develop and produce new plays to provide the conditions for new work to thrive.

This project is produced through the fourth year acting course ‘Performance Field Placement in Acting’ (PFA 420) where “Students apply foundational acting skills in a work-integrated learning environment with an industry partner. Each student is cast in one of two projects. Foundational acting skills are integrated to analyse, interpret and embody a role in a professional environment. Weekly rehearsals adhering to a professional schedule culminate in a public presentation off-campus.”

Performance Acting and Performance Design and Production students come together in this project; with Acting students as the cast, and Design and Production students as stage managers, design coordinators, and other essential technical roles, all students benefit from building connections with working artists and bringing a play to a professional Toronto stage.

This year, Performance and Tarragon Theatre will present Agency written by Nathaniel Hanula-James and directed by Mariló Núñez, and 2048 written and directed by Makram Ayache. The projects will be presented at Tarragon Theatre from November 19th-30th, 2025.
