Irene Gammel is a professor in the English Department and directs the Modern Literature and Culture (MLC) Research Centre. She joined Toronto Metropolitan University in 2005 as Canada Research Chair in Modern Literature and Culture and was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2009.
An award-winning teacher with experiential focus, a celebrated innovator in research strategies, a global ambassador to improve cultural outcomes for Canadians, she is a passionate advocate for research in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. As the author of 15 internationally acclaimed books, she is also a long-term champion for women researchers and their collaborations across disciplines.
She believes that striving toward excellence in research and creative activities helps to build strong communities both within and outside the university.
