Gyan Kalra
My name is Gyan Singh Kalra, and I’m a fourth-year Business Management student at Toronto Metropolitan University, majoring in Entrepreneurship and minoring in Finance. I’ve been elected as the student representative on the TMU Board of Governors for the 2025–2026 term, beginning September 1, 2025.
Over the past two years, I’ve gained valuable hands-on experience working in my family’s steel trading business, where I developed skills in operations, decisionmaking, and achieving strategic goals. I’ve also worked on several startup projects as part of my academic journey, earning strong grades and building real-world side hustles like TutorMate—a student-focused platform that supports academic success through peer-led tutoring.
Currently, I serve on the Board’s Employee Relations and Pensions Committee. I’ve been recognized on the Dean’s List for both Winter 2024 and Fall 2024, and I’ve completed two certifications in Social Media Marketing, as well as the DMZ Startup Certified Program.
Aside from academics, I am an active member of the TMU community. I enjoy participating in campus events, connecting with fellow students, and learning from the diverse experiences around me. Serving on the Board is a meaningful opportunity for me to give back to the student body and contribute to shaping the future of TMU.
