Angelique Bernabe
Since earning her PhD in Economics from Toronto Metropolitan University, Angélique Bernabé has built a career at the intersection of research, policy, and strategy. She is currently the Director of Research at the Securities and Investment Management Association (SIMA), where she leads national research projects that inform policy, industry practices, and strategic direction in the investment management sector. Before joining SIMA, Angélique worked as an economic and strategy consultant, advising clients on complex litigation matters. She also co-led her firm’s Pride affinity group, supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ colleagues.
Angélique’s work is guided by a strong commitment to equity and innovation. She serves on the Economics Profession Data Committee (EPDC), an initiative led by the Canadian Economics Association to improve data collection on diversity within the economics profession. She also co-founded LOCVM, a physician-designed digital health platform. LOCVM is a response to the realities of burnout and rigidity in healthcare staffing, and reflects Angélique’s broader interest in labour market dynamics.
While at TMU, Angélique co-founded and served as President of the Graduate Students’ Union, where she played a key role in strengthening graduate student representation. She was also a member of the TMU varsity fencing team. In 2020, she received the Faculty of Arts Contract Lecturer Teaching Award, recognizing her dedication to teaching and mentorship.
Angélique was elected to the Toronto Metropolitan University Board of Governors in 2025 for a three-year term as an alumna member.
