Guidelines for content

Digital Signage at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) is used to share timely and relevant content with students, faculty and staff across campus. All submitted content must meet our editorial, techical and branding standards and guidelines. All content is screened prior to running on the digital signage screens.

Content of ads should relate specifically to one of the following:

  • University-wide events, deadlines and initiatives 
  • Academic program announcements or initiatives such as contests available to students on campus, including faculty-specific and/or group areas; ie: international students, aboriginal, faculties
  • Key information for students related to the campus; ie: OneCard pickup , OSAP info, GO Transit, Locker deadlines, etc.
  • Promotion for the recruiting of prospective students
  • Fundraising for causes that the university is officially invoived in; ie the United Way Campaign

Content of ads should be neutral:

  • In the event of ads related to competitions or voting, information must be presented in an unbiased fashion with key information conveyed so as not to slant in any way

What we can't run on the screens:

  • Advertising for companies or groups OUTSIDE of the university
  • Offensive, violent, or visually extreme content
  • Content that discriminates in any way

All digital signage content must comply with TMU's Brand guidelines. 

  • The brand toolkit provides the guidelines and tools for the application of the Toronto Metropolitan University visual brand.

File Types: 

  • Static: JPG or PNG 
  • Video: MP4 (landscape only) 

Dimensions: 

  • 1920 X 1080 pixels (16:9) 

Text Requirement: 

  • Text must be legible from approx. 10 feet away 
  • Limit to key points and clear Call to Action (CTA)

Duration: 

  • Maximum 12 seconds for videos

Accessibility: 

  • Use high contrast colours 
  • Avoid flashing or fast transitions
  • Ensure font is readable from a distance 

File Naming Convention:

  • Format should be YourDepartmentName_Title_Date

 

Before submitting your signage ad, ensure the following criteria have been met: 
  1.  Main TMU Logo or department/faculty/unit logo 
  2. Resolution & dimensions are correct (1920X1080px)
  3. Video duration is no more than 12 seconds
  4. Text is readable from a distance of at least 10 feet 
  5. File naming convention has been followed
