Enhancing our online presence

Introducing a new digital home for sustainability at TMU

Launched on Earth Day 2024, the Sustainability Office debuted a new sustainability at TMU website designed to serve as a dynamic, centralized hub for all things sustainability-related at TMU. The site provides information about meaningful actions the Office is taking to advance sustainability at the university, as well as key resources and tools for adopting eco-conscious behaviors in the everyday lives of students, faculty and staff.

Expanding engagement through social media

The Sustainability Office launched its Instagram account in March 2024, providing the Office with a new channel for connecting with students, faculty and staff. Follow @tmusustainability (external link, opens in new window)  on Instagram for updates on sustainability on campus and information about upcoming events and campaigns.

Events and Programs

Climate Week 2024

Hosted from March 11 - 15, TMU’s second annual Climate Week brought together students, faculty and staff for a series of engaging events and activities that highlight the interconnectedness of people, animals and plant ecosystems within the context of global climate change—and how it’s affecting us all.

Event highlights from Climate Week 2024:

  • Documentary Screening with the Indigenous Education Council: A special introduction by Crystal Osawamick set the stage for an impactful documentary screening of Our Planet II: Freedom to Roam, highlighting Indigenous perspectives on environmental stewardship.

Student Sustainability Ambassador Program

In summer 2024, the Sustainability Office restructured the Student Sustainability Ambassador Program to create three new lead positions.

These roles—social media and marketing lead, outreach and engagement lead and sustainability events and campaigns lead—empower students to drive key aspects of TMU’s sustainability programming.

Each lead is responsible for planning and delivering events, tracking progress through regular check-ins and working toward peer engagement targets. To further strengthen their experience, industry experts were invited to deliver specialized training, ensuring students are well-prepared to lead sustainability initiatives and engage their peers in meaningful ways across campus.
