Delirium, Dementia, and Depression (#106B)

This simulation was developed from a grant for the Collaborative Nursing program at Toronto Metropolitan University, George Brown College and Centennial College.

This older woman is currently recovering from knee surgery with a short term stay in a long term care facility as her usual family care providers are currently out of the country. While in care, there is a request to determine if Agnes is still capable of living in her own home and caring for herself.

Learning Objectives

  • Listening skills
  • Developing trust
  • Demonstrating empathy
  • Assessing needs

Learners will be challenged to asses for all the possibilities - dementia, delirium and/or depression.

Information for Learners

Although Agnes wants to remain at home there is some evidence that she may no longer be fully able to take care of herself.  The learner is part of a team being asked to determine whether Agnes will be able to return to her home and manage with some support.
