Xingfei Liu is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Alberta. He is a labor economist whose research guides public policy by estimating the effects of interventions in labor markets, with a particular interest in policies that improve labor market outcomes for disadvantaged groups such as immigrants, ethnic minorities, and women. 

Additionally, he investigates the role of institutional design in shaping human behaviours as well as their impact on labor market efficiency. Recently, Xingfei’s research has focused on the economic assimilation of immigrants in the U.S. and in Canada and migration policies in the developed countries. He has also been investigating human capital accumulation and its dynamics with other labor market outcomes.
