John Shields
John Shields is a Professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Toronto Metropolitan University where he has taught and researched for over 30 years. He has published extensively in the broad areas of immigration and settlement, labour market policy, social policy, and the political economy of the non-profit sector. His last two books are Precarious Employment: Causes, Consequences and Remedies (edited with Stephanie Procyk and Wayne Lewchuk, 2017), and Immigrant Experiences in North America: Understanding Settlement and Integration (edited with Harald Bauder, 2015). He is a past-Director of CERIS - The Ontario Metropolis Centre (Centre of Excellence for Research on Immigration and Settlement) and a previous interim Director of the Toronto Metropolitan Centre for Immigration and Settlement (TMCIS). In 2016, he received the National Metropolis Researcher Award. From 2009 to 2012, he served as Managing Editor of the Journal of International Migration and Integration (JIMI) and continues to sit on its editorial board.
