Since its founding in 1925, Shure has turned a passion for making great microphones and audio electronics into an obsession. Hand in hand with that passion is a dedication to fostering artistic expression and creativity. Building on that legacy, The Creative School and Shure Inc. are introducing The Shure Award for Excellence in Sound Design to support these values for the next generation of leaders in sound. This $25,000 award will provide students in the Image Arts program with the opportunity to enhance their skills in their craft.

The Image Arts Film program allows students to build artistic as well as technical skills to tell engaging cinematic stories. Students gain hands-on experience in all aspects of film, from cinematography and sound design to filming with digital and analog technologies.

The Shure Award for Excellence in Sound Design provides financial assistance to 3rd or 4th year, full-time students in Film Studies at the School of Image Arts. The $5,000 annual award invites applicants with an outstanding academic record, a portfolio of successful creative film or sound projects and a clear and compelling statement of intent. The successful recipient will have the highest average grade in the Sound Design for Visual Media 1 and 2 classes.

“For nearly 100 years, Shure has been giving back to the community. This is one of the many different ways Shure supports education throughout the world,” said Dane Roth, Senior Director of Corporate Communications. “This award can provide students the extra help they need to pursue their passions and understand how rewarding careers in those fields can be.”

Tyler Small, Director of Development at The Creative School, shares the importance of this award for up-and-coming Image Arts professionals. "I would like to thank Shure Canada for their generous support of the next generation of film and sound professionals,” he said. “Our Image Arts students are empowered by the investment of an innovative global leader like Shure as they launch their careers. We look forward to growing this great relationship."

Fostering the next generation of changemakers

A global leader in audio electronics and renowned for their microphone and headphone products, Shure is dedicated to providing products that help individuals become experts in their craft. For students who may face barriers to access, this award will help in providing financial relief.

“Students today need as much help as possible,” Roth said. “Shure has been providing products to help content creators shine and voices be heard for nearly a century, so helping the next generation of leaders is something we are very passionate about.”
