Research Design and Quality Enhancement - Session 1: Research Approaches and Strategies
This workshop is designed for graduate students and early researchers who want to conduct research with a scientific approach. The attendants will learn how to design their research approach and strategy. At the end of the workshop, the attendants will get familiar with research design, its process and relevant situations for each research approach and strategy. Qualitative and quantitative research approaches will be compared in this section. Relevant situations for different research strategies including Survey research, Case Study and Experiment, as the most commonly research strategies employed by management and business researchers, will be discussed in section, as well. Examples of how to determine the most relevant approach (Qualitative, Quantitative) and strategy (Survey, case study, experiment) will be given. Attendants could bring their own research problem/topic into this workshop as practical example to determine the most relevant approach and strategy.
About the speaker:
Dr. Abbas Keramati is an Assistant Professor at the Ted Rogers School of Information Technology Management. He has taught at Wilfrid Laurier University and University of Guelph as a sessional lecturer before joining TRSITM. Additionally, he was an Associate Professor at the School of Industrial Engineering, University of Tehran, in Iran since 2006. He served as Head of the School of Industrial Engineering from 2010 till 2016.
