Business Intelligence and Firm’s Performance
As an IT-based phenomenon, BI/BA within the initial years of its introduction suffered from a misconception that huge investments in technical infrastructure would bring about efficiency and effectiveness as planned prior to launching BI/BA. What BI/BA scholars and practitioners are trying to better understand is that why BI/BA benefits are not widely realized by firms as anticipated before. There are few studies investigating into the factors leading to the success and failure of BI/BA. The concept of readiness factors and its effect on organizational performance has been the source of debate in the development and implementation of BI/BA in recent years.
One of the most important reasons that companies invest on information systems, like business intelligence and analytics, is the role of information systems on business excellence and performance improvement. Although many companies are investing on development of Business Intelligence and Analytics to improve their decision making and control over the company performance, there is little research on assessment of the effects of such an investment on the firms' performance. The goal of this research is to develop a conceptual framework to determine the effects of readiness factors on the relationship between Business Intelligence/Analytics factors and firms' performance. Technical, Organizational and Social readiness factors will be considered in this study.
