Meaningfully address Toronto's food insecurity crisis. Gain real experience. Get paid.

This Fall, the Social Ventures Zone, in partnership with Experience Ventures (external link) , Daily Bread Food Bank (external link) , and the Good Food Centre (external link) , will give TMU students from undergrad to PhD the opportunity to create the change that they hope to see in their city and beyond.

FoodFutures is a month-long challenge aimed at bringing together TMU students, SVZ startups, and the Daily Bread Food Bank to tackle food insecurity in Toronto. Five cross-disciplinary teams, each comprising four students from faculties across the University, will design and present innovative solutions addressing critical issues related to food insecurity.

Students will develop interdisciplinary collaboration, participatory design, social innovation, ethical community engagement, and entrepreneurial skills. Working directly with Daily Bread Food Bank clients and SVZ startups, students will learn to co-design human-centred solutions to food insecurity while strengthening their teamwork, communication, and critical thinking abilities. The challenge will also enhance students' understanding of systems-level approaches to social impact and community engagement.

How to Apply

To apply for the FoodFutures program, please complete the linked Google Form before November 4th at 11:59 PM. You have the opportunity to apply individually (you will be paired with a team) or with team members: please have them also apply and indicate in the form who the team members are. The SVZ will do our best to accomodate pre-formed teams.
