Laughing Cat Productions
Laughing Cat Productions was founded to create bold and forward-thinking social impact-generating original stories – as lensed through a highly-inclusive, women-focused, intersectional feminist viewpoint. We believe that everyone deserves a seat at the table, that all bodies deserve to be substantially represented in media, and that all voices deserve to be heard. Period.
We are proudly the first (and so far only) known production company in Canada who has made body diversity and intersectional inclusion an integral part of our casting and hiring processes for EVERY project we undertake. Thus far, over 85% of ALL casts and crews to date have come from equity-owed communities. We believe that how we see people represented in media is how we learn to respond to them in the real world, and that is a power that must be used for the right reasons.
When it comes to the issue of adequate, positive, and substantial on-screen representation of persons with disabilities, body diverse individuals, LGBT+ and BIPOC folks, and women 40+, the mainstream film industry still has a long way to go.
We’re here to lead by example when it comes to creating a safer, more equitable, and fairer world – both on screen and in real life.
