Robert Motum

Robert Motum is a director and playwright who serves as a Part-Time Lecturer in Performance at The Creative School. With a background in site-specific theatre, he has staged work on an active city bus, in a Queen West gallery, inside a castle, a vacant Target store, in augmented reality, and—occasionally—in a theatre space. His projects have been supported by companies including Outside the March, Studio 180, the Stratford Festival, Why Not Theatre, Theatre Gargantua, and Quarantine Theatre (UK).

Robert’s research has been published in The Drama Review, Theatre Research in Canada, Canadian Theatre Review, and in volumes from Routledge and Palgrave Macmillan. He is co-editor of "Subversive States: DIY Nationhood and the Staging of Sovereignty" and is featured in the documentary "Micronations" (Tribeca Festival, 2026). Robert holds an MA in Performance from Aberystwyth University and completed his PhD at the University of Toronto’s Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies.
