TMU’s 13-member search committee will begin meeting next month to oversee the recruitment process for the university's 10th president. President Lachemi has extended his term through the end of 2026 to allow for a smooth transition.

The search for TMU’s 10th president and vice-chancellor will begin this summer. In keeping with  (PDF file) TMU’s General By-laws a search committee has been formed by TMU’s Board chair, the committee was approved by the Board of Governors at this afternoon’s meeting.

As part of their work, the search committee will hear from TMU community members and other stakeholders through a series of engagement opportunities, oversee the work of the search firm and review potential candidates. The committee will begin meeting regularly next month, with regular ongoing updates to the Board of Governors.

The search committee will submit a final recommendation for approval by the Board of Governors by fall 2026. A timeline of the presidential search can be found here

The composition of the search committee membership is dictated by TMU’s General By-laws and is designed to be a representative cross-section of the university community, including representatives from the Board of Governors, Senate, faculty, students, administrative staff and alumni.

While President Lachemi’s term was set to end in April 2026, he agreed to extend his current term up to the end of 2026, as approved by the Board of Governors last fall, to support the transition and allow time for the completion of a number of complex university processes and initiatives currently underway.
