EL Campus + Community Showcase

The EL Hub’s Campus Community Showcase aims to highlight excellence in Experiential Learning at TMU, including exemplary initiatives in course-based, co-curricular, community-engaged, and faculty-led EL.

TMU educators, including faculty, contract lecturers, staff, and students are encouraged to share examples that reflect TMU’s values and address program-level or campus-wide academic and strategic priorities. Submissions will be featured on the EL Hub and Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching websites, and contributors will have opportunities to participate in our ongoing Community of Practice, and propose individual or panel presentations for the annual TMU Learning and Teaching Conference in May.

TMU faculty, contract lecturers, staff, and students are encouraged to share examples of effective Experiential Learning from the past academic year. Submissions will be accepted on an ongoing basis, but are encouraged by September 15, 2025.

Submission Guidelines

We welcome submissions that highlight inclusive, innovative, reflective, and impactful experiential learning at TMU. Submissions should be clear, practical, and framed to support institutional learning across departments, programs, and disciplines.

Submissions must include the following:

A brief, general description of the initiative, including the curricular context, goals, and connection to experiential learning.

  • What are typical goals for the program, and how does EL support students, faculty, and others to reach these?
  • What are common challenges that EL helps address or support students, faculty, or others to overcome?

A narrative detailing a specific example of how the initiative was implemented and the learning outcomes.

  • When did this happen? For how long and with what frequency? And who was involved?
  • How were EDIA+D priorities identified and addressed?

Share any outcomes, results, or assessment data that reflect the effectiveness or intended goals of the initiative.

  • How were students assessed? How was the overall initiative evaluated?
  • What did students, partners, or faculty say about the EL? What was unexpected or most surprising?

Your thoughts on how this work could be extended in your own program, and what could be adapted in other faculties, contexts, or with different student populations.

  • What is the main advantage of this initiative?

Include any tools, materials, frameworks, or documents that help supplement or contextualize your initiative. Please bundle multiple resources into a single, downloadable PDF or consider creating a shareable drive folder.

Showcase Priorities

We highly encourage contributors to reflect on equity and access in their submissions, and how their initiatives support experiential learning that is inclusive and accessible. This may include:

  • Reaching Diverse Student Populations: How did your approach support participation from students of varying backgrounds, identities, and circumstances?
  • Reducing Barriers: What common barriers (cost, transportation, time, technology) may have limited student involvement, and how did you tackle them?
  • Accessible Design: What steps were taken to ensure the experience was accessible to all students (different formats, accommodations, location)?
  • Support and Preparation: Did students receive adequate training, support or professional development to meaningfully engage in the experiential learning opportunity?
  • Data & Insights: If applicable, include any data or reflections that may highlight the experience of diverse student populations.

We welcome submissions that highlight innovative approaches to experiential learning, including:

  • Building Bridges Across Campus – Initiatives that create or strengthen cross-campus collaborations and experiential learning partnerships
  • Expanding Community Connections – Programs that deepen relationships with off-campus partners and extend experiential learning into the broader community
  • Advancing Equity and Access – Efforts that remove barriers and create more inclusive pathways for students who have been historically underrepresented in experiential learning opportunities
  • Embedding Real-World Engagement – Innovations that weave community or industry partnerships into everyday teaching and learning
  • Transforming Learning Spaces – Experiential learning integrated into labs, lectures, studios, and other campus environments
  • Preparing for Professional Practice – Programs that help students transition successfully into co-op placements, field experiences, practicums, and other hands-on learning opportunities
