Why study Philosophy at TMU?

The great philosophers throughout history have taught us the importance of questioning everything. Questions about the meaning of life, the nature of beauty, the foundations of political power, the existence of God, the concepts of right and wrong, the essence of reality itself and our knowledge of it - these all lead us closer to understanding who we are and the world around us.

Toronto Metropolitan University is located in the heart of downtown, and the Philosophy Department reflects the diversity and vitality of the city. Our department is composed of 21 faculty members who are passionately committed to student success.

It is not surprising that more and more employers are attracted to graduates who have had a philosophy background: not only is the study of philosophy an excellent way to improve critical reasoning, communication, and writing skills, it also cultivates innovative and independent thinkers who understand the big picture, and can engage creatively with the world around them.
