Employers’ Use of Advanced Digital Technologies in Recruitment and Selection of Immigrants and Broader Tech-Based Supports for Labour Market Integration
Sub-Theme: Transforming Immigrant Employment Pathways
The interrelated projects under this sub-theme each examine a different dimension of how ADTs, particularly those powered by artificial intelligence, are transforming immigrant employment pathways in Canada.
Objective
This project examines the implications of Advanced Digital Technologies (ADTs)—such as resume-screening algorithms, virtual interviews and platform-based hiring—for immigrant labour market integration.
It shifts the focus from individual-level outcomes to organizational practices, investigating how Canadian employers adopt ADTs in recruitment, onboarding, and retention. The study considers both potential benefits, like efficiency and fairness, and risks of reinforcing inequities.
The project also explores how immigrants experience and navigate digitally mediated hiring, and the role of digital support tools in job search and skill recognition. Findings will generate evidence to inform more equitable labour market practices.
