Vivekanand Alias Ghanesh
As a student in the School of Accounting and Finance at Toronto Metropolitan University, my experience has been defined by curiosity, persistence, and a growing interest in finance. I entered SAF knowing I was interested in business, but I was still exploring where I fit within it. Through my coursework and practical experiences, I developed a clearer understanding of the kind of work that genuinely interested me and the type of professional I wanted to become. What stood out most to me during my time in SAF was how quickly classroom learning connected to the real world. Conversations with classmates, professors, and industry professionals made finance feel less like theory and more like a way of understanding how people make decisions under uncertainty. That perspective pushed me to step outside my comfort zone, reach out to professionals, and actively explore different paths within the industry. The support and preparation I received through SAF also played a meaningful role in helping me secure co-op opportunities at Birch Hill Equity Partners and TD Bank, where I was able to apply what I learned in class to real professional environments. Through these experiences, I learned that building a career in finance is as much about communication and curiosity as it is about technical knowledge.
SAF helped me become more confident asking questions, sharing ideas, and approaching complex problems with structure and clarity. I’m excited to carry those habits forward as I begin my career and continue learning from the people around me.
