Welcoming More UK Legal Tech Solutions to Canada

The Legal Innovation Zone and Innovate UK announce the third cohort of UK companies preparing to enter the Canadian Market through the Global Incubator Programme
September 02, 2025

TORONTO, September 2nd, 2025 — The Legal Innovation Zone (LIZ) at Toronto Metropolitan University, in partnership with Innovate UK (external link) , is bringing a third cohort of UK-based legal technology companies to the Canadian Market through the Global Incubator Programme (external link) . Over the course of six months, the four selected businesses will take part in a comprehensive program to learn about and explore the Canadian Market.

Global Incubator Programme

The Global Incubator Programme is an acceleration programme established by Innovate UK. In partnership with leading incubators around the world, the offering allows UK-based businesses to grow and scale through exploring the potential of global markets.

The LIZ was selected to partner with Innovate UK for SMEs in the legal technology sector. As the world’s first and largest incubator dedicated to legal technology, the LIZ is uniquely able to help them develop new partnerships and collaborations, and explore the opportunity to innovate in the Canadian Market.

The programme includes two immersive market visits to Toronto, one-to-one mentorship, expert discussions and workshops, access to the LIZ network, pitching opportunities, and more. This year, the first visit will take place from October 6th - 10th, and the concluding visit and Demo Day finale will run March 2nd - 6th, 2026.

Benefits for Canadians

Canadian consumers and businesses benefit whenever innovative technologies can provide them with the legal services they need in the way and at the price they want them. Canadian innovators can benefit from the knowledge exchange.

The Global Incubator Programme aims to support the expansion of global legal technologies into the Canadian Market.

“We’re excited by the potential of the diverse legal tech solutions coming from the companies in this third cohort,” says Dr. Sasha Saunders, Director of the Legal Innovation Zone. “The intense workshop series, mentorship and relationship-building opportunities provided by the LIZ, coupled with access to Innovate UK’s outstanding support, will enable the companies to accelerate their planning and enhance their ability to enter the Canadian Market. We’re thrilled to work with them as they approach international growth.”

“Our continued partnership with LIZ provides an excellent opportunity to help UK businesses understand the Canadian Market and develop new collaborations so they can continue to innovate, scale and grow internationally,” says Jon Hazell, Innovate UK, Partnership Manager, North America and Global Incubator Programme.

The LIZ operates out of Toronto, the legal, financial and economic centre of Canada. Since launching in 2015, it has supported over 265 legal tech startups through programmes that support founders to progress from ideation to international sales. As a global hub, the LIZ works with a diverse range of entrepreneurs, governments, law firms and organizations to help build better solutions for the consumers of legal services – empowering innovators to shape the future of law.
